December 13, 2007
The Oklahoma Tax Commission has been advised that there may be a delay in the implementation date of the Internal Revenue Service e-file “live date” of January 11, 2008.
While the IRS has not made a formal announcement, currently the original live date of January 11 is not a viable option due to the potential of an approval by Congress in passing a promised “patch” or scale back of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).
At this point Congress has until December 21, when they will adjourn for Christmas, to approve a patch. If approved, and signed by the White House, the IRS estimates that it will take approximately seven weeks to make the appropriate changes to enable the e-file system to begin accepting returns.
We will post updates to this notice as further information is received regarding potential changes to the AMT and/or the IRS live date of e-file.
