MV: Affidavit of Non Use in Lieu of Liability Insurance

Should a vehicle not be in use at the time of registration and, as a result, liability insurance not required, an Affidavit of Non Use (Form 797 – available for downloading from the Forms section of this site) may be submitted in lieu of liability insurance verification. A distinctive, non use registration decal will be issued.

• Only the vehicle owner, or an individual with notarized power of attorney from the owner, may sign a Non Use Affidavit.

• Proper insurance must be obtained before the vehicle is placed into operation.
