MV: Notice of Transfer of Ownership of a Vehicle

Upon the assignment of ownership of a vehicle (boats/outboard motors are excluded) currently titled in Oklahoma, the transferor may notify the Oklahoma Tax Commission of the assignment by completing and submitting to any motor license agency a Notice of Transfer of Ownership of a Vehicle (Form 773) and $10.00 filing fee.

  • This is an optional procedure, intended only to notify OTC of the assignment of ownership.
  • By state statute, the Notice must include the VIN of the vehicle, license plate number, full name and address of the seller and buyer, date of ownership assignment and signature of seller.  Notices lacking any of the above information will not be filed.  (Oklahoma titles issued since January 2005, include a tear off notice form)
  • Upon receipt of a properly completed Notice, the sale information will be noted on the vehicle record.
  • No registration will be allowed until a transfer title is issued.
  • Record ownership of the vehicle will remain unchanged until a title transfer is completed.

Submission of the Notice in no way relieves the transferee of properly and timely transferring ownership of the vehicle.
