Oklahoma Begins Debit Card Program for State Tax Refunds

New this income tax filing season, the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) will issue debit cards in lieu of a paper check to Oklahoma taxpayers who do not choose direct deposit for their state income tax refunds.

“The Oklahoma Tax Refund Debit Card will make it easy for taxpayers to receive their tax refund,” said Paula Ross, OTC spokesperson.  “The debit card program is a safe, convenient and secure alternative to direct deposit for receiving an income tax refund.”

Upon activation, the Oklahoma Tax Refund Debit Card can be used at stores and ATM’s that accept MasterCard debit cards.  Taxpayers can even pay bills online or by phone, or even cash or deposit the refund amount at banks or credit unions.

The card is inactive when it arrives in the taxpayer’s mailbox and in a few easy steps the card can be activated.  To activate, the taxpayer must call the toll-free number found with the card, enter the card account number along with the taxpayer social security number and zip code, and assign a pin to that card.

For complete information on the new Oklahoma Tax Refund Debit Card, including answers to your frequently asked questions and fees associated with the card, visit the OTC website at www.tax.ok.gov and look for the card.
