Up to the Minute... Press Release E-File Numbers Increase for 2005; April 17th has come and gone and the task of tax preparation is complete for most Oklahomans. The Oklahoma Tax Commission remains very busy through the April deadline and well into the next couple of months with income tax processing. The 2005 tax year season broke records as the number of Oklahomans utilizing some form of electronic filing increased this year. As of April 24th, almost 60 percent of all income tax returns filed for 2005 were filed through E-File, either with a paid preparer or self-prepared through the internet. Just over 80 percent of all returns filed to date have been filed for refunds and at this time the average refund for 2005 is $426.15. Those awaiting paper filed refunds should allow six to eight weeks for returns filed during the month of April or later. Taxpayers that chose to electronically file their return are presently receiving refunds in one to two weeks. The ability to check the status of your refund is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply call (405) 521-3160 or in-state toll-free at (800) 522-8165. When the recording begins, simply follow the voice prompts. You will be required to give the primary (first) social security number or FEIN on the return and the amount of the anticipated refund. If you have questions regarding the response you receive as to the status of your refund, you will be given the opportunity to select to speak to a representative during the call. For those that filed an extension, remember your return is due by October 17, 2006.
